A Washington, D.C., company's proposal to build a $200-million-plus test city somewhere in New Mexico and a proposal to put a renewable energy equipment certification center in El Paso are among several topics to be covered at two energy conferences in El Paso late this month.

LAS CRUCES - New Mexico State University President Barbara Couture, University of Texas at El Paso President Diana Natalicio and Britt Porter of the Paso del Norte Group will announce details of the first Re-Energize the Americas conference in a news conference at 10 a.m. Thursday at UTEP's College of Engineering.

Starting on October 26, Re-Energize the Americas plans to showcase the Paso del Norte Region tremendous strengths and help regional renewable energy businesses, organizations and networks access additional capital opportunities including joint-ventures and partnerships.

Exhibits will feature regional businesses employing the latest advances in clean technologies and consumption-reducing strategies. Examples include solar, wind, bio-diesel, landfill gas, water reuse, and municipal solid waste technologies.

In 2011, the RTA will be held in collaboration with the Border Energy Forum.
